The local doctor was unable to help seven-year-old Kirabo*. He told the girl’s mom to prepare for the worst.
At the same time, CERT International was in the region of northern Uganda. No free medical clinic had ever been to the region before, and already, approximately 1,000 people had been helped.
Even though she had no money for treatment or transport, Kirabo’s mom chose to hope. Picking her limp daughter up, she carried her to CERT’s clinic. She made it just in time, in more ways than one.
It was CERT’s last day of clinics. By the time her mom stumbled in, Kirabo was so weak, the little girl lay completely limp. How far they’d come, each step an act of faith, only the two of them knew. And that faith was about to be rewarded.
The team had already done countless malaria tests and treatments over the course of five days. When Kirabo came in, the nurse practitioner jumped to work, quickly diagnosing not only malaria but also pneumonia. Fortunately, their personal pharmacy that they carried with them had enough Coartem and antibiotics for the girl’s treatment. The mother, though weary with exertion and concern, gratefully received the medications and instructions that would save her daughter’s life.
Not only did CERT International show up where no team had before and give tangible relief to this family, even after they left, they continued to pray for each patient, especially Kirabo and her mother.
Every spring, Blessings International raises funds for the Malaria Medicine fund so that we can supply free antimalaria medicines to teams like CERT International. The more people give, the more we can give away. Will you help us equip more teams this spring?
